How to participate

Come and join us! This will be a fun run, focusing on the rare opportunity of enjoying the company of two Olympic athletes in a casual setting.

We will gather at 8:00 a.m. at Pioneer Park in Kaysville to hear from Aoife and Jared and then get ready to run with them!

Instead of using timing chips & mats, bibs, etc., we're going to keep this event simple and just ask everyone to time your own race on your watch.

To minimize overhead expenses, we are asking participants to pay for the event through Venmo or by bringing cash or check to the event. Here's how to pay for your participation:

- Please arrive at 7:30 a.m.
- Show us your Venmo transfer on your phone, or
- Pay with cash or check
- We'll give you a wrist band to make you official

This will avoid the need to do packet pick-up the day before - just come the morning of the run and it will be quick and easy.

Also, we have received some very nice prizes from Wasatch Running and Blackstone Products that we will raffle off just before the race.

$30 per person, or whatever amount you'd like to donate (all proceeds will go to Aoife)

Virtual "Run With Aoife" Option!

Aoife has fans all over the world, and obviously not everyone can make it to Utah for this fun run.

But we'd still love to have you participate! Please feel free to run your own 5K race on your favorite course and send a donation to Aoife's GoFundMe account shown below (this is the best option for remote participants as opposed to Venmo).

We'll have a comments section on this website soon - after you've run your race, we'd love to have you post your results and wish Aoife well!

Aoife's story

Aoife (pronounced EE-fuh) is a sensational runner who has overcome tremendous odds to become an Olympian.

On Sunday 23rd April, 2021, Aoife Cooke (aka The Elfin Beast) won the Cheshire Elite Marathon and secured the qualifying time for the Tokyo Olympics.

Aoife’s story is an inspirational fairytale. At the tender age of 17, Aoife took up a U.S. scholarship at Arkansas Tech University. Unfortunately, just as her hopes and dreams of Olympic stardom began to bear fruit, they were shattered. Overtraining and undereating led to a series of horrendous pelvic fractures. Doctors diagnosed Aoife with osteopenia (weak bones).

Heartbroken, Aoife returned to Cork, believing she’d never run again. But champions overcome adversity… Years later, after undergoing strength training and improving her nutrition, Aoife laced up her shoes and went for a jog.

She connected with Coach Stazza (John Starrett), who coaches athletes all over the world who become part of his "Stazza's Stable." Through his carefully crafted and individualized training regimen, Aoife began to improve by leaps and bounds.

Fast forward a few years to the start line of the Cheshire Elite Marathon and 2:28:36 later, Aoife broke the tape to take the win and smash the Olympic qualifying time. Throughout the dark years, Aoife fought the demons of doubt and fear and rose again. While working 30+ hours a week as a personal trainer, she ran twice a day, banging out 100+ miles a week. Around the globe, thousands tuned in to watch Aoife’s incredible win.

People and businesses have asked how they can support Aoife on her Olympic journey and beyond. Partly due to Coach Stazza's close connections with his many athletes in the Beehive State, Aoife is coming to Utah for several months for altitude and warm weather training so that she’ll line up in Sapporo, Japan on the 7th of August in peak condition, ready to battle the heat, humidity, and competition.

Jared's story

Jared is a native of Davis County. He excelled on the track team at Davis High and went on to create an impressive collegiate running record at BYU.

Jared was the runner-up at the 2014 U.S. Marathon championships. At the 2015 USATF 25 km Championships, Ward finished first. At the 2015 USATF 20 km Championships, Ward finished first as well. Ward is also the 2015 U.S. Marathon champion. These three victories helped him secure the USATF Running Circuit title for 2015.

On February 13, 2016, Ward finished third, behind Galen Rupp and Meb Keflezighi, at the US Olympic Marathon Trials in Los Angeles, California, to secure a place on the 2016 US Olympic Team, finishing in 2:13:00 on a warm day.

On August 21, 2016 Ward finished 6th, with Galen Rupp in 3rd and Meb Keflezighi in 33rd, at the Olympic Marathon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, running a personal best time of 2:11:30 with the temperature in the 70s on a drizzly, humid morning.

We are honored to have Jared run this race in his home town of Kaysville in support of Aoife's Olympic journey! Thank you, Jared.
